Top Notch Laptop :)

When buying a laptop, there are several factors you must consider in order to be satisfied with your purchase. Listed below are 5 things that must be taken into account when buying the ideal laptop.

1. Weight
Weight is a crucial factor, and really applies to the lifestyle of the consumer. Most laptops weigh between 1kg-3kg. If you are a student treking to college everyday, it is not exactly practical to be lugging a 3kg laptop with you, unless you are driving. It also depends on if you use the laptop regularly. Although it may be lighter and easier to carry, the heavier the laptop, the bigger the screen and the better the processing power.

2. Screen size
The size of the screen is closely related to the weight. It determines the size of the keyboard- the bigger the screen, the bigger the keyboard. Also, if you have already become accustomed to looking at a large moniter, eg. 24 inches, a twelve inch moniter may result in a headache!

3.Touchpad or touchpoint
Do you plan on using an external mouse or a built in touchpad/touchpoint to move your cursor? If you are not going to use a mouse it would be good that you choose the more comfortable between the latter. Bear in mind that being efficient in controlling your mouse can save time!

4. Battery life
As plug sockets are not always available, a long lasting battery can prove to be more efficient! There is nothing worse than a flat battery when you are halfway through a mountain of work!

5. Accessories
The last thing you need to consider when getting a laptop is the built in accessories. For example, if you use a web cam often, ensure that your laptop comes with an integrated camera and microphone. If you often work with CD or DVDs, you will probably prefer a build in DVD drive. Try to buy a laptop with accessories that you need to avoid tedious downloads!

So really, the best way to select the best laptop for you is to imagine using it for your daily needs. With a wide variety of brands and models available you are sure to find the perfect one!

Locked in a Cell

"When you get in your car, you reach for it. When you're at work, you take a break to have a moment alone with it. When you get into an elevator, you fondle it. Cigarettes? Cup of coffee? Nope, it's the third most addictive substance in modern life, the cell phone" writes journalist Jon Markman in his astounding article 'Cell phones are the new cigarettes'.
This striking opening paragraph sets a definite tone for the rest of the article, which orientates around the evil of the evouloution of cell phone technology. Markman believes that the cell phone connects us to the world as it disconnects us from people three feet away. He claims that there are those amoung us who are likely to "hug it more tightly than most of their personal relationships".
The costs of cell phone use are not just financial, and do not just refer to your monthly bill. Research has shown that cell phones inspire social problems not much different from other addictions, "creating an obstacle to one on one personal contact and an escape from reality".
Marman goes on to write that despite the invention and on-going developing on communication technologies such as cell phones, email and instant messaging, our current generation doesn't have as many friends as our parents and grandparents. "Just as more information has led to less wisdom, more acquaintances via the Internet and cell phones have produced fewer friends".
The number of cell phone owners in the US jumped from 1 million in 1987 to 200 million today. Do cell phones govern our lifestyle?
I must admit that without my cell phone, I would be a little bit lost. I frequently engage in "casual text", sending irrelevant snippets of humour to my friends. Does this mean I'm addicted? No. Dependent? Maybe. As time evolves, cell phones become more compact and efficient, and different technologies have begun to work in coalition with eachother. Who doesn't want a 6.0 mega pixel camera on their phone? Or access to Facebook and Youtube from anywhere in the country? Cell phones make life easier, well they do for me anyway. If I didn't have one, how would I stay in touch with friends on a regular basis when we no longer attend the same school? I miss my bus, my cell allows me to text away for the timetable. I miss school, I can text a classmate for the homework.
So no, cell phones do not govern our lifestyle, but make it easier. I would like to write more on this subject, but my cell is ringing. Goodbye.

iLove my iPod

An article I recently read and found very interesting was 'The iPod: A Love Story Between Man, Machine' by Jose Antonio Vargas. This article expressed the idea that the iPod is a device which enables one to "listen to life's memories". It is described as an extension of ones self, like a window to the soul. This implies that when listening to a particular song, certain memories are reincarnated. Vargas writes that the iPod recreates these memories "faster than a mixed CD and definitely faster than a mixed tape". He also goes on to say that iPodders have easy access to their own personl memory bank, and refers to the technology as identity technology. Although the iPod is not the only digital music player around, it is the most popular. Through hundreds, perhaps thousands of songs, the story of our lives is reinacted in our heads, each song referring to an event, person, incident. With the iPod, these memories are accessible at all times, a personalised "collection of emotions and memories for yourself to carry around wherever". We are given a way of seeing ourselves through the mirror of the machine. Vargas goes on to reference a book by the english journalist Dylan Jones 'iPod, therefore I am'. Jones writes " it forces you to listen to your life in a different way" and recounts an experience with a song which "forced him to go back to somewhere I haven't been for a while".

As an iPod owner, I can shamelessly say that it is one of my most prized possesions. Whether walkin to the shop, travelling on the train, or just chilling in my bedroom, when I listen to my iPod I am reminded of my past, whether these memories be significant or trivial, positive or negative. For example, everytime I listen to the song 'Forever' by Chris Brown, I feel a flush of delight as I am reminded of the summer of 2008, a time in which I went to the Gaeltacht, holidayed to Orlando Florida and spent stress-free fun-filled hours with my friends. I am catapulted back to that time, and bombarded with memories. I can access anytime of my life and bathe in reminisence by the touch of a button. And for this reason, iLove my iPod.

Quadruple the Fun!

Scary stuff guys, quadruplets with schizophrenia! I took it upon myself to check out these Genain Quadruplets that were mentioned in our psychology lecture. Very interesting!

In your Dreams!

I found this website very interesting, it has information all about dream analysis and why we have them, what they mean! Why do I always have the dream of being chased but not being able to run properly?

Waissel you Weasel!

Folks, we are now on week 7, and Katie Waissel is STILL is the X Factor! While musical gems such as TreyC and Aiden Grimshaw have gotten the boot, Waissel still maintains her place in the competition! After 4 weeks in the bottom two, surely this week should be her send off, and I believe I speak on behalf of the nation when I say she has over stayed her welcome. Not only is her manner irritating and dramatic, her image is so cliche in our modern 'Gaga' times. Unique is NOT original!

Harry Potter.. a cinemagic experience?

Since 2001, the Harry Potter films have bewitched the minds of millions from all over the world of all ages. The Philosophers stone was a spectactular launching point for the spellbinding series, jam-packed full of action ; Quidditch matches, three headed dogs and trolls. The years have passed and as Harry grew, flying cars, fighting Dragons and duelling dark wizards, the quality and impact of special effects have heightened and blown the barriers of imagination! I have also noticed that the films have been getting more sinister, portrayed by eerie music, dark colour schemes( costumes, scenery) illustrating the progressively intense, serious nature the plot develops. Alas, I believe the earlier films to be more likeable as they appeal to a wide variety of ages, as in recent films the plot has developed depth and has become more complex. Maybe this is relevant to Harry's growth? The films are maturing according to him? Regardless, once we sit in that comfy cinema chair we are instantly catapulted into the spectatular world. Who knows what the penultimate film 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1' has to reveal? 3D experience - BRING IT ON! We must just simply sit back, relax and let our minds be BLOWN.

Welcome to My World!

Hey my name is Aoife Deegan, I'm 18 years of age and currently in my first year in IADT college studying pyschology. I have chosen this blog as an outlet of my ideas, interests, thoughts, rants and random poetry! I enjoy listening to motivating blood-pumping rap music, and hip popping hip hop. Tamango nightclub is my temple, the dancefloor my altar! I'm not very athletic, except for playing quidditch.  I'm always trying to give up smoking, and convert to a social smoker- not so easy!! Enjoy my blog and feel free to comment!

Beano. The man, the myth, the legend.

The beautiful thing that is Beano,
Face carved by the angels,
surrounded by a frame of ginger curls,
and littered with freckles.
Sculpted by jesus,
the body of a god,
bulging arms,
Built like a warrior, broad.
He marches into battle,
calm and ready,
with a hurl in his hand,
Firm and steady.
The pitch is his temple,
His own special place,
where he remains superior
To the whole human race.
A sliotar his ammunition,
His weapon of strength
to demonstrate his skill
He will go to any length.
The pitch like an artists canvas
He paints pictures of talent
His presence so powerful,
Like a shot of a cannon.
Until the sun sets,
In this haven he stays,
He will play there forever.
Until the end of his days.

WATCH OUT FOR THE HOLE LOVE!

So good! hahahaha
